Conceptually, the main driver for me in conceiving of these nightstands was to capture movement in a static form.  Playing with contradictions, where opposites complement and enhance each other, has always been a fascination of mine.  So my intent here was to achieve a balance, a contrapuntal dynamic, between playful curves and linear structure, between a sense of movement and anchored stability. Compositionally, these nightstands were meant to complement the curvilinear features of a cherry wood bed, creating with the bed’s curved headboard a partial ellipse. Constructed of bird’s-eye maple and cherry, with a wax finish, and lovingly crafted by David Flatow of Flatow Furniture.
